Preschool Special Education

(ages 3-5)

In New York State, Preschool Special Education Programs are available for children ages 3-5 who have a disability or developmental delay in one or more areas of development. Children receive specially designed instruction, CPSE oversees the Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Under the administration of NYSED, PSE is administered by local school districts and funded by New York State and counties, so that there is no cost to families.

  • Offers support and resources tailored to age groups including birth through early childhood and Early Childhood Parent Meetups.

  • Provides a wide range of online resources and an app to support parents and caregivers advocate and identify Preschool Special Education needs.

  • Parent led, parent support and advocacy group. Hosts parent meetups and playdates for children waiting for early intervention, preschool special education. Public Facebook group.

  • Offers parent-led support services and resources to families with children from birth to 2 years old who have disabilities or special healthcare needs while helping them build the confidence and advocacy skills needed to navigate the early years of their child's development.

  • Offers support and training to educational organizations, families, and communities to improve equity, access, opportunities, and outcomes for all students with disabilities in New York State.
