Specific Learning Disabilities

Specific learning disability means a disorder in one or more of the basic psychological processes involved in understanding or in using language, spoken or written, which manifests itself in an imperfect ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell, or to do mathematical calculations, as determined in accordance with section 200.4(j) of this Part. The term includes such conditions as perceptual disabilities, brain injury, minimal brain dysfunction, dyslexia and developmental aphasia. The term does not include learning problems that are primarily the result of visual, hearing or motor disabilities, of an intellectual disability, of emotional disability, or of environmental, cultural or economic disadvantage.

  • Parent led, parent informational support and advocacy group. Hosts monthly informal zooms for families, facebook page and Youtube channel.

  • Parent led, private facebook group for families of children with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia.

  • Provides resources, support, and information for parents of children with learning and attention issues through articles, videos, expert advice, tools, and community forums.

  • Provides support and resources to empower families with children who have all types of disabilities or special healthcare need.

  • Offers support and training to educational organizations, families, and communities to improve equity, access, opportunities, and outcomes for all students with disabilities in New York State.

  • Provides informational family workshops and an early literacy/ dyslexia roadmap.
